Course Information

The Certificate in English courses aim to develop your accuracy, fluency and confidence in the appropriate use of English and seek to enhance the student’s passion for learning English.

Certificate in English (Level 1)

equips absolute beginners with a good foundation for everyday English through a step-by-step approach, building on skills and confidence; and

covers the four main language skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking.

Certificate in English (Level 2)

 introduces up-to-do topics to encourage a higher level of communicative speech;

emphasises on more practice to boost students’ confidence in using the language in everyday life;

expands vocabulary to better cope with functional, situational and survival situations; and

covers the four main language skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking, as well as role-play and audio-visual activities.

Certificate in English (Level 3)

 introduces up-to-do topics to encourage a higher level of communicative speech;

 emphasises on more practice to boost students’ confidence in using the language in everyday life;

 grammar rules and structures from the previous level will be reinforced and further developed through tasks and explanations;

 expands vocabulary to better cope with functional, situational and survival situations; and

 covers the four main language skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking, as well as role-play and audio-visual activities.

 Certificate in English (Level 4 & 5)

 build students’ confidence in using English with high degree of grammatical control;

 expands vocabulary to better cope with functional, situational and survival situations; and

covers the four main language skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking to support the use of English in both academic and work setting.

Mode of Assessment

Quarterly Assessment Tests will be conducted for all modules indicated above. The Overall Score is the average of the three module scores. The module scores are weighted equally.

Course Completion

Quarterly Assessment Tests will be conducted for all modules indicated above. The Overall Score is the average of the three module scores. The module scores are weighted equally.

Students must attain at least an Overall Score of 60% for the Quarterly Assessment Tests.

Students must achieve at least 90% attendance.
